Nutfield Youth 0 Pease Pottage 'A' 1 14.04.02
Keen
to put in a top performance, while their manager Tim Bellars was running the
London Marathon, Nuts piled on the pressure from the start containing the play
in the Pottage half. Midfield magnificence from Ben Donovan and Lad –of- the
-match Luke Bellars , gave Jack Potts and Jack Bellars plenty of opportunity to
go for goal, all credit to the Pottage goalie who made several excellent saves.
Nuts came out slowly in the second half allowing Pottage more room, Thomas Paul and Donovan worked hard to keep them at bay. Pottage scored from an excellent corner giving Nuts goalie Sam Belcher no chance. Nuts determined to find that equalizer stepped up the pressure, with Potts, Bellars and Donovan unlucky not to score, it wasn’t to be Nutfield’s day!

Nuts put in one of their best performances of the season to hold one of the leagues strongest teams to a draw. Captain and lad of the match Jack Potts made some powerful runs at goal and was unlucky not to score on several occasions. Ben Donovan commanded the midfield as usual with Luke Bellars and Josh Taylor on either flank. All three put in some crunching tackles to keep Oakwood at bay. Jack Bellars sat behind the midfield clearing up any stray advances and providing some unconventional route one football to lone striker Potts. Thomas Paul stayed cool under pressure when the odd attack looked threatening. But the only real threat was dealt with by keeper Samuel Belcher who pulled off two great saves in either half of the game. Nutfield should have won in the dying minutes with a free kick on the edge of the area from Donovan but some fine goal keeping from Oakwood denied Nutfield the spoils.
Nutfield Youth 1 Maidenbower Colts 'B' 0 24.3.02
Nutfield Youth 0 Maidenbower Colts 'A' 2 17.3.02
This was a fine performance by Nutfield despite the obvious defeat. Having gone behind due to a lapse in concentration by Thomas Paul after the first five minutes of early pressure, the ball was then seldom in their own half. They had wave upon wave of penetrating play but lack of confidence in front of goal sadly didn't produce the goods. The second half was the same story with Ben Donovan controlling the midfield with a magnificent display aided by some crunching tackles from the Bellars brothers. Josh Taylor had a great chance with a dazzling run from the midfield to the edge of the box but took one touch too many to see the ball go out for a goal kick. Sam Ford just could not find a way through a crowded box on several occasions which summed up nuts morning. Then with five minutes remaining another break away saw Maidenbower score their second with a great finish from outside the box that gave Samuel Belcher little chance despite an admirable performance.
Nutfield Youth 0 Crawley
Down 'B' 3 10.3.02
Nutfield slumped to their worst defeat of the season so for. The trademark slow start was much in evidence in very windy conditions, as initial pressure from the opposition was rewarded when the ball was fired home from a long throw into the box. The second goal was almost a carbon copy of the first when Nuts were put under more pressure at another throw in outside the box, as Taylor deflected the ball into the net with his shin. Donovan was as strong as ever in the midfield in a hard tackling game not for the faint hearted and was unlucky not to score when he released a screaming strike from outside the box which hit the cross bar and was subsequently gathered well by the keeper on the rebound. Normally Nutfield come out the stronger side after the break, but not today as they conceded the third within five minutes of the restart after some poor defending by Thomas Paul. Belcher pulled off a great save to tip the ball onto the upright but with only Down's striker anticipating the rebound the keeper had little chance second time around.
Nutfield Youth 0 Horley Town Jets 2 03.03.02
Nutfield's all too common slow starting was present in a game that was already over within five minutes of the start. From the kick off Horley were the attacking team holding possession and making creative play. They were duly rewarded when poor clearing resulted in a great close range volley that gave goalkeeper Belcher no chance, as the ball ended up in the top left corner. The second was gifted to the Jets minutes later as poor defending saw a wicked bounce fly into the air and loop over the keeper. It could have been three if it were not for a fantastic well timed tackle by Donovan on a break away attack by Horley. As usual Nuts then started to play with most of the action confined to the Horley half. After the break signs of a fight back were apparent with the midfield being controlled by lad of the match Donovan and unlucky not to have scored when he fired a fine long-range thunderbolt just over the bar. Both Sam Ford and Jack Bellars were also unlucky with good chances that were kicked straight at the keeper.
Nutfield Youth 2 Furngate Magpies 0 24.02.02
Nutfield Youth 2 Crawley Down 'A' 1 10.02.02
Nutfield came from behind to win a great game of football 2-1. Early pressure was cruelly wiped out when the A's caught Nutfield on the break to score a fine solo effort. This was the customary wake up call they needed. A rampant midfield went in search of the equalizer, and was soon rewarded when Jack Bellars was fouled on the edge of the box after a great run, giving Ben Donovan the chance to thump a glorious free kick over the wall into the roof of the net. After the break Nutfield increased their appetite for goals and with little more than two minutes on the clock Donovan sent a ball down the left wing to Bellars, who skipped one challenge and sweetly struck a left foot shot into the right hand corner of the goal to score his first of the season and more importantly give Nuts their first win since Christmas. Crawley Down then set about trying to even things up but with 'man of the match' Thomas 'Iceman' Paul in defence their efforts were to no avail. A couple of attempts from Josh Taylor and Jack Potts should have sealed the game but a last minute goal mouth scramble nearly saw Thomas Berry put the ball in his own net were it not for the ever sharp Samuel Belcher pushing the ball wide. A notable performance from Simon Pickett ensured Nuts took the honours on an admirable team effort.
Nutfield Youth 0 Furngate 0 03.02.02
Goals were in short supply during the last encounter with Furngate and unfortunately it was the same story in a lively but goalless match. Nutfield could not afford to lose this match and after a good pre-match talk started very well with good tackling and attacking play. A stubborn Furngate defence made it very hard for creative play but Nuts dominated and the best chance fell to Potts, only to see a miss kick squander the chance. A great free kick from Donovan was just touched wide. After the break Furngate came out a different team but Nutfield were equal to everything and great passing nearly broke the deadlock. The only chance that fell to Furngate happened in the dying minutes when Nutfield's defence were caught napping but Belcher did well to make an important save on the edge of the box, given how little he had to do during the match.
Fielding a depleted side due to sickness, this really was a game of two halves. The all too common lack lustre first half saw Nuts concede two sloppy goals due to poor tackling and bad positioning. Donovan did have two fine long range shots but both were just wide of the target. At the break the whole team was given a roasting by the manager and came out a different team. From the kick off Nutfield attacked continuously and were rewarded after five minutes when a throw from Donovan was met with a perfect connection to allow Luke Bellars fire a half volley into the top left hand corner. This then gave nuts hope but even though they continued the onslaught the equalizer evaded them.
Nutfield Youth 0 Ifield Cobras 1 20.01.02
After last weeks disappointing postponed fixture with Threebridges, it was important Nutfield put in a good performance and got back into their winning ways, but unfortunately Ifield did enough in the first five minutes to take the honours. From the kick off Cobras attacked hard and were rewarded when poor tackling saw them cut threw the midfield and defence and drill the ball into the net from the right hand side. This was the wake up call Nuts needed, a couple of changes saw Potts come off the bench and start the fight back. The ball was then rarely out of the oppositions half and when it did, Thomas Paul was always on hand to thwart any attacks. At one point a wild clearance from Ifield saw the ball go the whole length of the pitch and bounce just before Belcher and seemed to be going over his head but the cool keeper got back to clear his line in time. Minutes before half time Donovan put the ball tantalizingly wide of the top left corner with a great free kick. Harsh talking at the break brought Nutfield out a different team in the second half. Midfield dominance by Taylor created some great chances for Potts and Ford but they were unable to convert. The final five minutes was brilliant, with corners, free kicks and 'pass and move' football executed with all the confidence of a winning side, but sadly for Nuts it was not to be. Josh Taylor was given 'man of the match' in a game that should have given Nutfield at least a draw.
Nutfield Youth 0 Worth Park Rangers 2 6.1.02
Nutfield put up a brave performance to a side that out played them on the day. The two-week lay off had done them no favors, as a lack of commitment was obvious. Rangers pushed hard in the first half, but were only rewarded five minutes before the break, when fancy footwork on the edge of the area saw the ball squeezed into the bottom right hand corner passed a deputizing Donovan covering for the absent Belcher. Nuts then counter attacked from the restart with good breakaway chances from Potts and Bellars, as Rangers seemed content to defend their lead. After the break both teams upped the tempo but it was Worth Park that found the net with more great pass and move skills. The tally may well have been greater if it were not for a string of fine stops from Donovan and crunching tackles from Tom Paul, which lead to a nosebleed and an ankle injury. Despite these knocks Paul was able to finish the match and picked up the man of the match award

16.12.01
This was a very frustrating game for Nutfield. Pease Pottage 'B' set out their stall early benefiting from last week's match against their 'A' team. Nuts started well with great pass and move play, but as the game progressed shots on goal became less common and credit must be given to Pease Pottage's six men behind the ball tactic which became harder and harder to break down. Donovan had a great chance to break the deadlock with a free kick just outside the area. The ball was driven across the face of the goal but two Nutfield players were unable to get the touch needed to convert it. After the break things didn't improve much. Nuts pushed forward in an attempt to score and were nearly caught out on the break several times but Jack Bellars cleared every time to deny goalkeeper Belcher any chance to handle the ball throughout the whole game. Bellars also had a couple of fine runs down the left wing but was unable to finish the chances. In the last five minutes Nutfield piled on the pressure but at the final whistle honours were even.
Nutfield Youth 3 Pease Pottage 'A' 1 09.12.01
Nutfield Youth 0 Oakwood Youth 'A' 3 02.12.01
This
was a score line that did not do an under strength Nutfield justice. Oakwood are
considered one of the strongest teams in the league and Nuts put up a brave
battle. This
was the first time the Bellars brothers, Jack and Luke had started together and
both put in a great performance but unfortunately could do little when the first
goal came after five minutes. The combined defence and midfield contained an
initial attack leaving Belcher little to do but then Oakwood pounced on a loose
ball and slotted it home.
A string of fine saves followed but he could do little about the second
as a fine volley hit the back of the net. The fight back then began with Potts
trying to break down a stubborn defence. Taylor then displayed the finest aerial
dominance to date but a cruel fumble saw the tally increase to three before the
break.
Nutfield got the lift they needed with a well deserved victory against Maidenbower. Nuts piled on the pressure from the kick off with good attacking play from Jack Potts and Simon Pickett. Good defending from the opposition thwarted several chances but with this relentless pressure something had to give and the only goal of the match came ten minutes into the half, from a scrappy goal mouth scramble, Simon Pickett knew little about the goal he scored as it ricocheted off his head and looped in to the goal. Nutfield's defence held firm from the occasional attack, to go into the break one up.
Nutfield Youth 1 Maidenbower Colts 'A' 3 18.11.01
Nutfield took Maidenbower by surprise by going one up within five minutes. Initial pressure from Nuts saw a great pass and move skills rewarded with ' man of the moment' Josh Taylor rifle in a great shot from the edge of the area. The opposition then counter attacked from the restart and were soon gifted an equalizer when Belcher struggled to gather the ball from a throw in and put the ball in his own net. A couple of great saves then made amends but Colts then used this stroke of luck to increase their dominance and it was not long before they took the lead with a fine solo effort. A couple of changes at the break brought Bellars and Potts off the bench to try and get Nutfield back into the game, but instead of defending their lead Maidenbower pushed to increase their tally with a relentless attack that saw the majority of the play in the Nutfield half. The match was then sealed when a clumsy challenge from Donovan handed Maidenbower a free kick just outside the area from which they duly dispatched the third.
Nutfield Youth 1 Crawley Down 'B' 1 11.11.01
Honours were shared in this evenly contested match. Nutfield fielding a weaker team due to the absence of Ben Donovan struggled to contain play in midfield. Both sides had chances in the first half, the best efforts coming from a Jack Bellars free kick from just outside the area that hit the side netting and a goalmouth scramble from a corner kick. Midway through the second half the match seemed to be heading for a draw when a fine solo effort from Crawley Down broke from their own half and blasted a shot past a helpless keeper.
From the restart Field piled on the pressure gaining a corner straight away. Bellars drove the ball across the face of the goal for Josh Taylor slot the ball home. Both sides then came to life with numerous attempts from both sides. At the final whistle both sides agreed this was a fair result and Josh Taylor was named as man of the match.
Nutfield Youth 0 Horley Town Jets 1 4.11.01
Nutfield didn't have lady luck on their side in an evenly contested game that saw the Jets take the prize. Many battles were fought all over the pitch making it a highly entertaining game. Horley were then awarded a corner and drove the ball across the face of the goal, the ball hit Thomas Berry on the back and cruelly went in. Nuts dug deep to try and find the equalizer but it was to no avail.
Furngate 'B' 0 Nutfield Youth 3 28.10.01
Goal machine Sam Ford increased his goal tally to seven in three matches with another wonderful hatrick. From the kick off Nuts piled on the pressure, pushing four men into the opponents half, leaving Tom Berry as the defence. A constant barrage kept Furngate under pressure and finally provided a break through when Ford took advantage of a weak goal kick and buried the ball in the back of the net. With Donovan and Luke Bellars assisting with the attack the second was only a matter of time. Josh Taylor won the ball on the half way and provided a killer pass down the left wing to Ford, who skipped a challenge on the edge of the area and slotted the ball home. Two changes at the interval saw Tom Paul and Jack Potts replace Tom Berry and Josh Taylor. The fresh legs proved invaluable as a fired up Furngate counter attacked aggressively from the restart. But as usual Donovan's command of the midfield and Paul as the last man proved more than a match to the limited attack. The visitors soon got back in the swing with numerous attempts on goal. But the last word was left to Ford, with five minutes to go he executed a lovely chip over a stranded keeper to not only seal the game but also earn a well-deserved man of the match.

After last weeks goalless draw, Nuts needed to start positively in what was potentially one of their hardest games so far. So after 30 seconds of Nutfield kicking off, alarm bells started ringing as they picked the ball out of their own net. They had lost possession immediately to the visitors, who tore through Nutfield's midfield, round a half hearted challenge from Bellars only to be dispossessed by Paul who in a panic-stricken moment drilled the ball past a static Belcher in an attempt to clear it. This was the wake up call Nutfield needed, they immediately counter attacked confining play to the opponent's half. After seven minutes in a move to push for an equalizer, Ford was pushed up front to pair Potts. The plan had an effect almost immediately as Ford pounced on a loose ball in the area, and slotted it past the keeper. The battle was then confined to the midfield as Donovan battled for every ball in an effort to make up for the earlier mistake. He and Potts then tested the keeper from long range only to see their attempts go wide. Ford however found the perfect drive to the left hand corner to increase his tally past a keeper who was fast losing his confidence and his ability to clear the ball. With only minutes before the break Crawley Down upped a gear, with another break away only thwarted by a fine challenge from Jack Bellars and a looping volley from twenty yards that hit the cross bar. Both teams started the second half in high spirits with Crawley Down having most of the chances, Belcher being equal to every attempt. Donovan then took charge in midfield winning every challenge to feed the ever-hungry strikers. A hard working defence trying to limit the damage then saw a poor goal kick intercepted by the rampant Ford to not only complete his hatrick with precision but also nick the man of the match award from Donovan
Nutfield Youth 0 Furngate 0 7.10.01
Nutfield were surely guilty of complacency in a match that promised much but bore little. Furngate set up their stall early with the two defenders camped on the fringe of the area, ensuring that any attempts of creative play were futile. With the majority of the play con fined to the midfield, throw in practice was the order of the day on a damp cold surface that produced poor ball control from both sides and the only thing gained was added on time at the end of both halves. The usually flamboyant Potts was replaced at half time to try and break the deadlock. Tom Berry was brought into midfield and Sam Ford was pushed up front, but it was to no avail. Furngate had already written the script for this match and goals were not part of it. If play on the deck was little to talk about at least the aerial dominance of 'Man of the Match' Josh Taylor provided glimpses of encouragement, making up for last weeks faux pas. With fours minutes of time added on, 'super sub' Luke Bellars was give a run out. He had immediate impact as the normally diligent Furngate defence lost concentration allowing him a low drive from the edge of the area, but it was met by a well-positioned keeper. Nuts then came to life, with a great strike from Ford and a free kick from Donovan looking for the 'Beckham' touch in the dying minutes but driven wide. At the final whistle a clearly pleased Furngate celebrated a dull game Nutfield will want to forget.

Ifield Cobras 2 Nutfield Youth 1 23.09.01
Nuts went into this game in high spirits after last weeks fantastic start, but in an first half that had both keepers with little to do, captain for the day Donovan fought hard in a midfield stale mate that showed all the signs of a scoreless draw. With a few minutes to go before the break Potts struck from the edge of the area with a shot that should have been collected comfortably by Cobras keeper but some how ended up in the goal. After the interval, with an unchanged line up Nutfield tried to settle down and consolidate their lead but it was to no avail. Ifield took advantage of a corner awarded to them with clinical precision, the ball fired to the edge of the area and a one touch drive that found the back of the net. Nuts tried to keep their heads up but sloppy defending was to cost them dear. Bellars had had a good game at the back, with some fine clearances but with only couple of minutes to go he was left stranded in the face of a two pronged attack, the ball being neatly laid off in a one two that saw Nutfield's hope of a well deserved draw diminish as the ball was slotted past Belcher.
Nutfield Youth 6 Three Bridges
0 16.09.01
Nutfield started their inaugural season with an emphatic six nil win over fellow rookies Three Bridges. After three friendlies during the past three weeks it was down to business, to put into practice, nearly two years of preparation. Nuts made hard work of the first five minutes and seemed to be caught out by the speed of the astro turf surface. But then after Bridges initial stand, Jack Potts pounced to open the scoring and then moments later secured his brace, as he dominated play. A frustrated Ben Donovan then came to life and grabbed another two before the interval. The management team then made a couple of changes for the restart, with Thomas Berry and Jack Potts replaced by Thomas Paul and Josh Taylor. The fresh legs immediately had an impact with Donovan bagging his hatrick. A few fine saves from Bridges keeper then stopped the rout for a while and a penalty given away by Donovan for handball gave the opposition hope. But it wasn't Three Bridges day when keeper Samuel Belcher stood tall and watched the kick go wide. Captain for the day Jack Bellars had little to do at the back but rarely crossed the half way line to make sure a clean sheet was maintained. With four minutes to go a gallant Bellars stepped aside to let brother Luke take guard. Man of the match Donovan then sealed the victory with his fourth to round off a very satisfying mornings work.
