Under 10's Season 2004/2005
Nutfield Youth 6 Hook Youth B 0 Saturday 29 January 2005
Nutfield Youth U10 produced a stuttering display before eventually overcoming Hook Youth B by 6-0. A frustrating first half saw a number of chances missed before mid way through the first half Sam Ford tucked home a left foot, from a Luke Bellars pass. With Michael Georgiadis and Adam El-Hari assured at the back Nutfield looked secure and they did come close on further occasions from Ben Gubby, Samuel Belcher and Bellars but could not add to the goals.
The second half was far more productive, especially for Ben Davies who scored four goals. Within five minutes he had scored twice, firstly after a fine one-two with Gubby and then when put through by Ford. This made the game safe and a more relaxed team saw Christopher Donald twice came close when surging through before Davies added two further two goals, with a near tap-in and a speculative left foot shot through a crowd of players. With Daniel Walker on to bolster the defence Giles Lloyd completed the scoring with Nutfields sixth when he reacted quickest to a poor defensive clearance to steer the ball home.Caterham Pumas B 0 Nutfield Youth 3 Saturday 22 January 2005
Nutfield Youth U10 produced a good display away at Caterham Pumas to return to their winning ways in the league. Not to be caught out like their last home match to Pumas the midfield of Sam Ford, Ben Gubby and Ben Davies took complete control for the first part of the game. Despite resolute defending and superb goalkeeping in came as no surprise as first Luke Bellars from the edge of the area fired home through a crowd of players, then Davies neatly tucked home when left with only the goalkeeper to beat and finally, just before halftime, Christopher Donald forced his shot in at the near post past a desperately diving keeper to give Nutfield a comfortable 3-0 lead.
The second half turned out to be far more even with defenders Samuel Belcher and Michael Georgiadis, with the assistance of Ford having to work much harder to deny Caterham and goalkeeper Adam El-Hari was forced to make several saves. Nutfield should have scored more but a combination of inept finishing and superb goalkeeping kept the score at 3-0. Ford was very unlucky with a near post header from a corner that just went wide and the goalkeeper at his near post in finally stopped Davies after a dazzling left wing runSouth Park 0 Nutfield Youth 5 Sunday 16 January 2005
Nutfield Youth U10 produced their finest performance of the season when they went away to South Park in the Inter League Cup and ran out 5-0 winners. Not to be overawed by their higher division opens Nutfield took early control and it was no surprise when a Ben Davies through ball was calmly steered into the net by Luke Bellars.
More pressure saw fantastic saves from the South Park goalkeeper, close headers from both Sam Ford and Ben Gubby, before Davies effectively settled the game when he rifled home a shot from well outside the area. A third was added before halftime when Gubby poked the ball home after a goalmouth scramble following good work by Ford.
The total dominance of the Nutfield defence of Samuel Belcher and Michael Georgiadis prevented a direct shot for goalkeeper Adam El-Hari. In the second half the Nutfield ascendancy continued and a Gubby lob shot was unluckily dropped into his own net by the South Park goalkeeper but there was no luck about Nutfields fifth when Gubby slotted home after a weaving run and a superb one-two with substitute Christopher Donald. Defender Daniel Walker made his competitive debut and looked just as assured as a second half substitute.Nutfield Youth 1 Caterham Pumas B 1 Saturday 9 January 2005
In extremely difficult weather conditions, with a near gale force wind blowing, Nutfield Youth U10 made very hard work of their home game against Caterham Pumas B eventually finishing 1-1 and dropping their first points of the season. Despite kicking into the strong wind, Nutfield, with Sam Ford and Luke Bellars dominating were in complete control and mid way through the first half striker Christopher Donald pounced to finished off a good move. With Michael Goergiadis superb at the back goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri did not have to make a single save.
With the wind at their backs for the second half it should have been easier but some sloppy defending allowed Caterham to equalise from the only shot they had on target. From this point on Nutfield became ever more desperate in their search for a second and winning goal. Ben Davies was unlucky to see his goal bound shot come back of his own player, Samuel Belcher narrowly headed over from a corner and Davies bought a superb near post save from the Caterham goalkeeper from another fierce drive. Late substitutions of Douglas Lyman and Giles Lloyd could not change the situation.Carshalton FC 1 Nutfield Youth 3 Sunday 19 December 2004
Nutfield Youth U10 were entertained by Surrey Premier League Carshalton FC U10 for a festive friendly. The attraction of hot drinks and mince pies were not enough to deter from a very competitive match. Both managers took the opportunity to change their teams around and Nutfield gave a first game to defender Daniel Walker.
Despite starting well Nutfield unaccustomedly found themselves a goal behind with a slightly shaky defence reacted slowly to a Carshalton attack and Adam El-Hariri had no chance in goal. With the fast moving forwards of Christopher Donald and Michael Goergiadis and equaliser looked likely and it came as no surprise that after good work by Sam Ford and Donald on the right Ben Davies was quickest to react in the middle and tuck home the Donald cross. Nutfield did have the ball in the net again just before half time but the goal was disallowed for a foul on the Carshalton goalkeeper.
In the second half Nutfield looked far more assured with Samuel Belcher commanding in the heart of the defence and scored again early in the half when Donald struck after further good work from Ford. The game was still very even with both goalkeepers making good saves until the third and decisive goal did come and when it arrived it was well worth waiting for. Nutfield were defending a Carshalton onslaught when Donald clearing the ball from the edge of his area found Davies unmarked wide on the left from where he “Giggs like” sprinted half the length of the field before weaving in and slotting past the advancing goalkeeper.Nutfield Youth 1 Stoneleigh Athletics B 0 Saturday 11 December 2004
Nutfield Youth U10 made hard work of their home game against Stoneleigh Athletic B, in what on paper looked a comfortable game, eventually scraping through 1-0 winners. New striker Christopher David found it hard in his first start of the season and the revamped midfield were having great difficulty in creating that many chances. Despite this it is was all one way traffic and without some woeful Nutfield finishing they would have gone in at half time comfortable in front. Despite the whole Nutfield team having “a bad day at the office” stand in goalkeeper Sam Ford was only still only afforded one touch of the ball.
For the second half Nutfield returned to their usual personnel and formation but still found it difficult to piece the Stoneleigh defence. With Ben Gubby, Ben Davies and Ford back in midfield a goal looked likely and did eventually come when a free kick, controversially awarded for the Stoneleigh goalkeeper handling outside his area, was fired home by Gubby. Despite taking the lead Nutfield continued to struggle and were twice thankful for superb “match saving saves” by goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri. The Nutfield defence of Belcher and Michael Goergiadis held tight against the late Stoneleigh surge and they nearly scored again themselves through Gubby and Davies.Caterham Pumas B 0 Nutfield Youth 2 Saturday 4 December 2004
A low scoring game eventually saw Nutfield Youth U10 run out 2-0 winners away to Caterham Pumas B in their second round cup match. Nutfield completely dominated the early play and eventually broke the resolute Caterham defence when Ben Davies jinking down the left crossed for striker Luke Bellars to fire home from close range. The game should have really been safe before halftime with Bellars coming close again and a string of Davies corners being headed close by Ben Gubby and Samuel Belcher. Sam Ford continually finding himself free on the right had a succession of very close shots and industrious Gubby hit the bar with a curling free kick..
The second half started well when Davies cutting in from the left slipped a ball through to Gubby on the edge of the area who's fierce goal bound shot was deflected past a helpless goalkeeper. Nutfield continued to dominate the rest of the game and with the solid defence of Belcher and Michael Goergiadis goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri only had one shot to save. Injuries to 2 players gave substitutes Christopher David, Douglas Lyman and Giles Lloyd a late chance to impress in the strong Nutfield team.Bookham Colts C 0 Nutfield Youth 6 Saturday 13 November 2004
Nutfield Youth U10 visited Bookahm Colts with a re-arranged team due to injuries and illness and an opportunity to try different players. Things did not go to plan and with the industrious, goal provider, Sam Ford finding himself mainly in defence, with few chances being created, changes were made. This produced an immediate result with only Ben Davies being quick enough to keep up with quick flying debutant Christopher David and tuck away a near post cross. Goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri pulled off an excellent save to keep Nutfield ahead when the Bookham forward was clean through on goal.
The second half was far more assured with Michael Goergiadis back in defence and Ben Gubby on to add stability to the defensive midfield. A series of goals followed when first David latched onto a Davies through-pass to score his first goal and then David returning the favour for Davies to slot home left footed after a fine one-two. David then got his second with a perfect chip from the edge of the area. Luke Bellars added a fifth when he fired home after a scramble and Giles Lloyd finished the scoring when he lobbed in from well outside the area to complete a businesslike 6-0 victory.West Ewell Wanderers C 0 Nutfield Youth 3 Saturday 13 November 2004
Nutfield Youth U10 came up against a determined West Ewell Wanderers C team and after a sluggish performance eventually ran out 3-0 winners. Defender Samuel Belcher and midfielder Sam Ford were outstanding for Nutfield but rugged defence from Ewell made it very difficult. Ben Davies eventually broke the deadlock when from close range he volleyed in a Ford cross. Luke Bellars also came close with a glancing header from a Davies cross after an excellent build up from Ben Gubby and Ford. Adam El-Hariri was never really threatened in the Nutfield goal and the closest Ewell came was with a free kick from just outside the area.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first half with Nutfield doing most of the attacking. The game remained in the balance with Belcher and Michael Goergiadis having to be alert and sharp in defence. Minutes from the end Gubby made the game safe with two excellent goals, he was first to react when he volleyed home a Davies corner and then after a superb through pass from Luke Bellars he rounded the goalkeeper before firing home. Substitute Douglas Lyman came close to adding a forth just seconds before the end.Nutfield Youth 5 Warren Mead B 0 Saturday 6 November 2004
Nutfield Youth U10 faced a tough game against Warren Mead B with both teams going into the game unbeaten. The first half was a fierce encounter with both goalkeepers being kept busy and both defences having to work hard. Despite no goals there were chances at both ends with the Nutfield defence of Samuel Belcher and Michael Georgiadis having to stand rock steady. The tiger like Ben Gubby in midfield found he had to work hard in supporting his defence and attack with the early opportunities falling to Luke Bellars and Sam Ford.
The pivotal moment of the game came early in the second half when a quick interchange between the Mead forwards left goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri having to make a wonderful save with his feet to prevent Nutfield from going behind. Straight from the resulting corner a Nutfield breakaway saw a precision cross from Sam Ford that could only be helped into his own net by a Mead defender. A couple of minutes later a goalmouth scramble saw Bellars calmly collect and fire home the second. In a five minute golden spell a Ben Davies hat trick sealed the game for Nutfield with a 5-0 win. Firstly, he was at the near post to glance in a header from a perfect Bellars cross after fine work by Ford. Secondly, he cut in from the left with a dazzling solo run, beating four defenders, before finding the net, and finally he was thankful for a superb Ford cross that left him with just the keeper to beat.Horsley 0 Nutfield Youth 8 Saturday 30 October
Nutfield Youth U10 manager Gary Belcher stuck to his word and remained silent throughout the game as his team played as they had been shown in training. They scored a total of eight goals of which four came from set plays they had been working on during training. Horsley were never in the game and found it difficult against the well-organised Nutfield team. With Sam Ford and Ben Davies excelling on the wings, Luke Bellars holding up play up front and Ben Gubby bossing the middle there was little for the defence of Samuel Belcher, Michael Georgiadis and goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri to do.
Nutfield scored five in the first half, firstly through Gubby heading in from a Davies corner, then Bellars at the near post from a Ford cross, then Gubby again after a one-two with Davies. Gubby then completed his hat trick with another header from a corner before Ford fiercely fired home after being put through. Between these both Gubby and Davies had rattled the cross bar with fierce shots. Second half changes bringing on goalkeeper Reg Wantling and defender Giles Lloyd made little difference with Gubby getting a forth, Davies repeating his feat of two weeks ago by returning the goalkeepers kick out. Davies then added his second, and the eighth when his penalty, awarded after he was tripped, hit the post but he was on hand to poke home the rebound.Nutfield Youth 6 AFC Ewell 2 Saturday 23 October
Nutfield Youth U10 faced their toughest game of the season at home to a well organised AFC Ewell team. For the first time this season Nutfield found them having to defend and in a very tight and even first ten minutes could well have gone behind. When the first goal did come it fell to Nutfield striker Luke Bellars who pounced on a goalkeeper clearance to chest it down and serge through and score left footed. The hard working midfield of Ben Gubby, Ben Davies and Sam Ford were beginning to get the upper hand when cutting in from the left a spark a magic from Davies made it 2-0. A quite outstanding Gubby header from a Davies corner made it 3-0 at half time.
The second half was far more even with both sides matching each other with goals. The Nutfield defence of Samuel Belcher, Michael Goergiadis and goalkeeper Adam El-Hariri were not having it their own way and goals by Bellars and Gubby were cancelled out by two good efforts from Ewell. Fords bad luck in front of goal continued with even the woodwork denying him before Gubby ensured there was no way back when he magnificently met a Ford cross on the volley to complete his hat trick and Nutfields sixth.Roundshaw Colts B 0 Nutfield Youth 11 Saturday 16 October
Nutfield Youth U10 had an easy 1st round cup game away to Roundshaw Colts B, eventually running out emphatic 11-0 victors. Any early nerves were soon dispelled when with the first shot of the game Sam Ford crisply hit the back of the net. With Luke Bellars proving a handful up front the game was effectively sealed when Ben Davies added two further goals in quick succession. An injury to hard working Ben Gubby meant he could take no further part in the game but this made little difference and with the play totally in the Roundshaw half Samuel Belcher added a forth just before half time.
The second half gave Nutfield an opportunity to change the team around affording an opportunity for, Douglas Lyman, twice, Michael Goergiadis, twice and Adam El-Hariri to score their first goals of the season. In amongst these Giles Lloyd playing in central midfield fired home from just outside the area. The final, and most spectacular, goal of the game gave Davies his hat-trick when playing at the back he "Beckham like" returned the goalkeepers drop kick back over his head into an empty net. For the last few minutes goalkeeper Reg Wantling took over as striker but despite several efforts could not find the net.
